Palm Pre Plus Review




Palm has unveiled its brand new smartphone called “Pre Plus”. Palm Pre Plus is a Verizon bound smartphone which includes design improvements like keyboard, look and feel of the phone. Palm Pre Plus has the RAM and internal storage which gives the smartphone’s performance an increase in speed and extended capabilities. Palm Pre Plus has the Palm WebOS 1.3.5 which makes easier for the user to use the interface and multitasking capabilities.

Design:

At the first look, you may feel like there is no much dissimilarity between the Palm Pre and Palm Pre Plus. Palm Pre Plus has changed its design so that it develops the feel and overall look of the device. Palm Pre Plus comes with 100.5x59.5x16.9 mm in dimensions and weighs around 138 g. It comes with 3.1 inches of Touchscreen display with 320x480 pixels of resolution. It has a QWERTY keyboard, which remains small, which irritate the people with big thumbs. Even though its keys are small, it makes easier to type the messages compared to the previous versions.

Palm Pre Plus has the multi-touch input method and Accelerometer sensor which makes the phone to use easily. Palm Pre Plus comes with 16M colors and a TFT capacitive touchscreen. On the top of the phone, you will get the 3.5 mm headphone jack along with the power button and silent ringer switch. Flash and Camera are situated on the back side of the phone and a microUSB port is situated on the right pane of the device.




Features:

Palm Pre Plus comes with webOS v1.3.5 which gives the each and every feature including multitasking function, Palm’s notification system and Synergy. Palm Pre Plus provides 16 GB of internal memory and 512 MB of RAM. It stores unlimited phonebook and call records, but it doesn’t offer a microSD card slot which makes disadvantage for the microSD card users. It has Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and microUSB v2.0. It also offers 3G with a bandwidth of 3.6 mbps and the EDGE at the bandwidth of 236.8 kbps. You can also access the GPRS with this phone at the bandwidth of 32 to 48 kbps.

Palm Pre Plus offers ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz CPU with PowerVR SGX graphics which allows user to run more applications and gives the seedier performance. It offers one grate app called “Palm Mobile Hotspot utility”, which allows the user to turn on the Palm Pre Plus mobile into a Wi-Fi router which can offer a broadband connection on the mobile using Verizon’s EV-DO Rev. Palm Pre Plus includes Flash Player v10.1 Beta plug-in which allows you to watch the content which uses the Flash from the web browser. You can also do the editing and video recording using this phone.

The call quality of the phone is quite good. Palm Pre Plus comes with WAP 2.0 HTML browser using which you can access the GPRS. You can access MMS, send and receive email and so on. This phone also supports the Game. The gaming is great for entertainment, but its productivity is bad. Palm Pre Plus supports MP3, eAAC+, MP4, H.264, H.263, and WAV players so that you can listen to your favourite music with these formats. It also offers Document Viewer to help you in viewing the documents like MS-Word. It even has the GPS with A-GPS support and AT&T Navigator.

Performance:

Palm Pre Plus offers quite good call quality. Audio quality is clear, but you will face little background interference. Its speakerphone quality is not good as compared to other and the volume is also too low in the quieter environment. You can pair the Palm Pre Plus mobile with other headset without any issues.

Its 3.5 mm headphone jack is very good. It gives rich sound effects with the nice balance of bass and treble. The video playback is also very good. It plays smoothly and continuously, but at the starting it takes some seconds to buffer the video. Palm Pre Plus has the 3.15 megapixel camera which helps you to capture your own photos and videos. Though it doesn’t offer any kind of editing, it still offers great quality of the picture.

Because of its 512 MB of RAM, the applications can be opened much faster and there is less delay when changing between the Menu screens. You can experience great performance while playing game even though some of the apps running behind.

Palm Pre Plus comes with Lithium Ion 1150 mAh with the Standby up to 350 hours and gives the Talk time up to 4 hours for both 2G and 3G. Palm Pre Plus is available in the Market with the price of $149.99. It is also available at the low cost with the two-year contract.
